What we’re up to: Chandos School

Chandos School’s vegetable bed area has been under-used in recent years and we are now starting to set this straight with a complete overhaul. Old bed edging has been removed from the site, a wildlife area is being contemplated and salvaged wood has been prepared for the construction of new vegetable beds. A greenhouse awaits construction at the corner of the garden area.

What we’re up to: Regents Park School

Children from Year 3 spent an entire day preparing a meal from pumpkins grown in the school garden just before half-term. The meal was very popular, as was the washing, juicing, grating, chopping, frying, skinning, peeling, mixing and serving of the meal. Pumpkin tagine with vegetable couscous – everyone’s favourite!

What we’re up to: Paganel School

The vegetable beds at Paganel School are approaching being a decade old. The time has come to get them into their finest shape again. New timber will be used to replace some of the older wood, several of the beds have been cleared entirely of all their old soil and this will soon be replaced with clean, fresh, locally-sourced compost.

Children harvested and cooked marrows, pumpkins and beetroots from their vegetable garden recently. There was so much marrow that only three of them would fit in the oven, and more than half of the pumpkin had to be taken away to be eaten at home. The Moroccan-style stuffed marrows were a real “hit” with Year 3, as was the accompanying beetroot and mint salad.
